YOUR TASKS
- This position is situated within the international research project ‘Orchestra’ which investigates effects of anthropogenic underwater noise on the structure and functioning of marine ecosystems.
- The successful candidate will perform laboratory experiments exposing marine sediment organisms and communities to underwater sound. Focus is on the effects of sound on the behaviour of macrofauna and how this in turn affects communities of micro-invertebrates and microbes, as well as the biogeochemical processes to which they contribute.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis of microbial community structure and functioning using metagenomics and metatranscriptomics approaches.
- The successful candidate takes the lead in the mid-term and final reports of the Orchestra project and in translating main research results into scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- The successful candidate initiates and mentors similar experiments and analyses in the framework of research into the effects of climate change on marine sediment communities.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a thesis-based Doctorate in Sciences (Biology, Marine Sciences or similar) or Bioengineering (relevant discipline).
- You have proven experience in ecological research as illustrated by publications in international journals with peer review.
- You have demonstrable experience with applications of metagenomics and metatranscriptomics, including relevant bioinformatics analyses, in ecological research.
- You communicate fluently, both written and orally and for diverse audiences (ranging from scientists over end users to students).
- You have a result-oriented focus and take responsibility.
- You are a team player who works flexibly and is willing to support the team also beyond the limits of the Orchestra project.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a fulltime contract of definite duration for a period of at least 15 and at most 24 months. We are also open to a parttime contract. The precise duration of the contract will depend on your salary scale and project budget.
