Organizational Setting
The Division of Energy Planning and Nuclear Information and Knowledge comprises the Planning and Economic Studies Section, Nuclear Knowledge Management Section and the Nuclear Information Section. The Division is responsible for strengthening capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, building capacities to manage nuclear knowledge and provide knowledge management services to interested member states, and to procure and provide printed and electronic information in the area of nuclear science and technology.
The Nuclear Information Section (NIS) consists of the IAEA Library Unit, the INIS Unit and the Systems Development and Support Group. It foster the exchange of scientific and technical information on the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology; increases awareness in Member States of the importance of maintaining efficient and effective systems for managing such information; provides information services and support to Member States and to the IAEA; and assists with capacity building and training.
Main Purpose
Under the supervision of the INIS Coordinator, the Nuclear Information Officer ensures high quality subject analysis and classification of the records entered into the INIS Collection. He/she is also responsible for the cooperation of INIS with Open Access consortia and maintenance of other contractual obligations with information providers such as publishers.
Role
The Nuclear Information Officer performs the role of (1) an analyst performing subject analysis of IAEA and other UN publications, as well as of the bibliographic records received from INIS Member States and scientific publishers in the subject area of nuclear engineering, technology, instrumentation, and other related areas; (3) a team member working collaboratively on the maintenance and revision of INIS working procedures, guiding materials, and on the continuous improvement of information processing workflows, as well as optimizing them to utilize the resources of NIS and especially the IAEA Library; and (4) an advisor to the INIS Coordinator on matters related to contractual obligations with publishers and other entities that provide relevant information to INIS.
Functions / Key Results Expected
In the fields of nuclear physics, accelerators and nuclear reactor engineering, and related technical fields, the Nuclear Information Officer will:
Perform subject analysis of the contents of publications of the IAEA and other UN organizations, and of electronic input received from scientific publishers and/or INIS Members;
Verify the quality of the subject analysis and abstracts received from Member States, correcting errors and/or re-index documents as required;
Propose actions for improving the quality of the INIS Collection and for increasing effectiveness of the subject analysis techniques, retrieval and cataloguing capabilities;
Analyse and assist in improving the comprehensiveness of coverage of the INIS Collection;
Advise on contractual obligations and maintain partnership with relevant stakeholders that provide nuclear information to INIS, such as scientific consortia and publishing houses.
Prepare presentations and other documents for INIS meetings and training programmes in subject analysis and information retrieval.

Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $70212 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 39389*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks’ annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
