We are looking for a strong, talented individual to support our Finance team with the requirements of a Financial Controller , Self-Storage Europe and UK.

Your Role in Keeping the Future in Safe Hands…

As Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the small Business Unit transactional finance professionals. As a qualified and experienced accountant, you will ensure the accurate and compliant recording of financial transactions while actively contributing to finance operations and initiatives. Your responsibilities include managing financial controllership tasks and process standardization, and an element that will also include being accountable for conducting FP&A tasks for your Self Storage Business Unit. You will business partner and interact daily with the Managing Director of Self Storage Europe and UK.

The Financial Controller will be based in our South Wimbledon, London office and will functionally report to the Head of Finance, UK, for ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions UK Ltd, with a dotted line into the US-based Director of FP&A for Self-Storage Group.

What you will do…

  • Lead and manage a small team of transactional finance professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

  • Ensure accurate recording, reviewing, and posting of journal entries in compliance with IFRS and local GAAP.

  • Oversee and contribute to timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.

  • Supervise monthly and quarterly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, resolving discrepancies promptly.

  • Lead the preparation of financial reports, including variance analysis and reporting in systems like HFM.

  • Ensure compliance with local accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal financial policies.

  • Support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Perform financial controllership tasks, including IFRS 16, Fixed Asset, and Intercompany accounting.

  • Lead payroll posting and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Lead statutory accounts preparation, VAT, and Corporation tax reporting.

  • Collaborate with the Head of Finance, UK, and other stakeholders on finance operations and automation initiatives.

  • Drive process standardization and actively contribute to other strategic finance initiatives.

    FP&A activities include:

  • Develop, monitor, and communicate key performance measures that support the company’s strategic financial objectives.

  • Provide variance explanations to help operating areas, as well as our financial operations, understand the drivers of our business each month.

  • Ensure real-time visibility of financial performance throughout the organization.

  • Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research, and perform cost and profitability analytical studies.

  • Work with sales organization to set and track operational goals on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

  • Lead the preparation and execution of the annual operating budget, monthly re-forecasts, and monthly financial reporting to provide transparency and insight to the business.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support in reviewing and analyzing monthly results and forecasts, including reporting to leadership teams, highlighting areas of concern, and recommending solutions.

  • Create ad-hoc forecasts during key periods to provide insights into areas of risk and opportunity and influence business strategies.

    What we expect of you…

  • Minimum 2-5 years of professional experience within accounting, bookkeeping, or General Ledger

  • Bachelor’s, master’s degree in finance or accounting, Charted Accountant qualifications (e.g., ACCA) or other equivalent accounting qualifications.

  • Proven leadership experience in managing accounting teams.

  • Good understanding of General Ledger processes

  • Experience with ERPs (SAGE, SAP S/4HANA will be an advantage) or Oracle etc.

  • Thorough understanding of IFRS, local GAAP, and financial compliance

  • Experience in financial controllership tasks, including fixed asset and intercompany accounting.

  • Familiarity with basic UK VAT/Tax reporting and requirements (is a bonus).

  • Significant hands-on business experience with accounting functions

  • Strong commercial and strategic understanding

  • Must be fluent in English (oral & written)

  • Able to manipulate data and have reasonable Excel skills.

  • Ability to maintain the accuracy of accounts to ensure accurate company financial statement reporting.

  • Conscientious and pro-active with the ability to co-ordinate effectively.

  • Competent communication skills with the ability to liaise with all levels.

  • Self-driven, results-oriented entrepreneurial person with a positive outlook and a clear focus

  • Ability to work both within a defined structure as well as independently.

  • Ability to operate in an environment of teamwork, common goals, and transparency.
