X-ray-tracing simulations for instrumental function determination H/F
Commissariat à l’Énergie Atomique
Organisation The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners. The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout FranceReference 2024-33651Position descriptionCategoryMathematics, information, scientific, softwareContractInternshipJob titleX-ray-tracing simulations for instrumental function determination H/FSubjectThe Nano-Characterization Platform (PFNC) of CEA Grenoble has a large set of state-of-the-art equipment to carry out physicochemical characterizations for micro and nanotechnologies, nanomaterials, materials for energy, etc. The PFNC is continually developing new equipment that must be optimized. Within the PFNC, the X-ray analysis laboratory seeks to innovate in its instrumentation through the implementation of numerical simulation tools to determine and therefore optimize the instrumental function of these equipment’s.Contract duration (months)6Job descriptionThe main objective of this internship will be to develop a numerical simulation tool called ray tracing coupled with a stochastic Monte Carlo method to calculate the instrumental function of an X-ray analysis setup based on knowledge of its measurement chain (source, optics, goniometer, detector, etc.).
The simulations will be compared with experimental measurements of the instrumental function or existing analytical methods. They will then be extended by adding virtual experimental artifacts to the measurement chain in order to quantify the sensitivity of the equipment and the measurement to non-systemic errors. Finally, “material” characteristics could be introduced to simulate real samples.Applicant ProfileWe are looking for a candidate in Master 2 with strong skills for numerical simulation as well as good knowledge of solid-state physics. A strong ability to critically analyze the results obtained and to synthesize them is also necessary for this highly innovative numerical work. Good skills in Python programming is required.Position locationSiteGrenobleJob locationFrance, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Isère (38)LocationGrenobleCandidate criteriaPrepared diplomaBac+5 – Master 2Recommended trainingNumerical simulationsPhD opportunityNonRequesterPosition start date01/02/2025 Isère
