As a volunteer mentor, you are an adult friend and a homework helper who meets with a child in your local area 2-4 times a month. We are currently looking for a mentor in Holbæk.Lær for Lifet is an organization that provides children and young people with difficult life circumstances professional support and community, so that they stand stronger in school and everyday life.All children have hopes and dreams for their future, but some need an extra helping hand to get on the right path in life. A voluntary mentor – is an important adult who breathes life into the child’s dreams.As a mentor, we expect you to:

• Supports the child reading homework in Danish and mathematics
• Meet with the child 3-4 times a month
• Are prepared to support the child by using your personal and social skills
• See yourself as a good role model
• Has completed a youth education
• Can commit you as a mentor for at least one year and preferably longer.

We ensure that:

• You come to Lær for Lifet’s training program for mentors, where you will be well prepared for the task as a mentor
• You will be offered two annual supervisions as well as an exchange of experience with other mentors
• A thorough assessment is made which ensures a good match between you and the child.

8 out of 10 young people in Lær for Lifet pass the primary school leaving examination (FSA) at the end of the 9th grade. For vulnerable children in general, the figure is 3 out of 10, states follow-up research on Learn for Life from DPU, Aarhus University.

Only 27 percent of young people in a vulnerable position have completed youth education six years after primary school. This applies to 77 percent of their peers who come from a non-exposed position. In Lær for Lifet, 8 out of 10 pass the Folkeskolen’s Leaving Certificate in 9th grade. A full 78 percent continue in youth education. Learn for Life is an organization that works holistically and long-term to strengthen learning, life skills and communities among children and young people in vulnerable positions, so that they can eventually complete a youth education and create a good and self-sufficient life for themselves. The children are between 9 and 13 years old when they start Lær for Lifet. The children are there for at least six years. The effort is financed by foundations, companies and municipalities with participating children. We live at Hejrevej 43, 2400 Copenhagen NV.
