Our Woodland Project work acts to strengthen engagement and collaboration between the bat
conservation and arboriculture, forestry and tree/woodland management sectors. The main areas
of the project involve filling knowledge gaps relating to woodland bats, relationship building,
awareness raising, training delivery, technical expertise, policy, communication and business
development.

We are now looking for a Woodland Training Officer to join us on a part-time basis, working
18.75 hours per week, for a fixed term contract for 12 months with a view to the post
continuing depending on the availability of funds.

woodland management sectors whilst bridging the knowledge gap and ensuring that best practices
in woodland management are implemented across the industry, benefiting both bats and broader
biodiversity.

The Role

As a Woodland Training Officer, you will develop and deliver tree and woodland-focused bat
training to a range of practitioners to ensure best practices in bat conservation are widely
known.

Creating and implementing a training plan for the Woodland Project, you will develop a training
schedule and produce new training resources such as courses, e-learning modules, seminars, and
workshops.

You will deliver these training sessions, generate income for the project and ensure that the
information is presented in a way that is engaging and relevant to the various audiences.

Additionally, you will:

  • Develop training materials, including field guides and handouts, tailored to different topics
    and audiences
  • Promote Woodland Project training to relevant industries through various communication
    channels

About You

To be considered as a Woodland Training Officer, you will need:

  • Experience of public speaking and delivering training to a range of audiences
  • Experience of inspiring others about conservation and motivating them to act
  • Experience of producing high quality written communications for a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of the trees and woodlands sector
  • Knowledge of methods to account for bats in the management of trees and woodlands
  • Knowledge of woodland and tree-roosting bat ecology and behaviour
  • A good understanding of the issues affecting bats in trees and woodland
  • A bats survey or research level 2 licence (CL18)

Due to the travel requirements of this role, you will need a full, valid driving licence and
access to a vehicle to use or other means of transport suitable for travel to areas not served
by public transport. Frequent travel and staying away from home overnight will also be
required.
