WOMEN’S SUPPORTED HOUSE MANAGER (FEMALE)

£32,020 Full time: 35 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION

Hull Lighthouse is a Christian charity that has been supporting street sex workers and other vulnerable women in Hull since 1996. We are now in the process of obtaining our first house which will accommodate some of the women we work with and help them to prepare for their own tenancies. The house will provide 24/7 support for 6 women, including therapeutic input and meaningful activities in a pleasant, homely environment.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with vulnerable women, with a background in housing, who will manage our first property. The House Manager will ultimately be responsible for:

  1. Recruiting and supervising the housing team and managing rotas.
  2. Overseeing rental income and Housing Benefit claims.
  3. Managing the house, its maintenance and its updating.
  4. Being responsible for the residents and their welfare.
  5. Representing Hull Lighthouse’s housing service at local multidisciplinary meetings.

The role will involve:

Coming to work as part of our existing service initially, learning the different roles that we currently have in order to understand who we are, what we do and the way we work. This will involve being based full time with the existing team until we open the house. It will give you the chance to take part in everything from evening outreach to daytime casework, get to know the team and key partner agencies, and understand the history and development of the organisation.

  • Working with the Hull Lighthouse Manager, Hull Lighthouse Development Lead and Green Pastures Partnership Manager to get the house up and running and ready for the first tenants.
  • Developing systems, policies and procedures for the effective running of the house.
  • Helping to decide the allocations policy and take part in the selection of residents.
  • Setting up the rent sheet and working with the Housing Benefit team to make sure that reporting systems are in place.
  • Taking part in recruiting, training and supervising the team who will work in the house, introducing them to and promoting the Lighthouse culture and values (see link below).
  • Ensuring that all team members comply with Safeguarding, GDPR, Equality & Diversity and other statutory duties.
  • Overseeing the renovation and maintenance of the house, including regular servicing, emergency repairs and planned works.
  • Responsibility for health and safety, and compliance with legal requirements including fire and security precautions.
  • Communicating with the Planning Department, Supported Housing Team and HMO licensing authorities to ensure that all legal requirements are adhered to.
  • Applying for funding and writing funding reports if necessary.
  • Building relationships with other organisations in Hull and representing Hull Lighthouse at meetings when appropriate.
  • Other tasks required in order to get the house open and ensure its safe and peaceful running.

The aim is that we will expand our housing service to include move-on houses with floating support for women who are ready to move on from the fully supported house. There is the potential for the house manager to be involved in developing, expanding and managing this service in the future.
