The Forest and Grassland Team promotes the sound management of the world’s forest and grassland ecosystems through the application of the ecosystem-based approaches to safeguard nature and societal benefits. The Team is part of the Centre for Conservation Action, and contributes to the goals of the IUCN’s Nature 2030 Programme.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Intern will support the implementation of the Forest and Grassland Team in 6 months, particularly in providing technical, administrative and policy support to projects, including the Dryland sustainable landscapes impact programme global coordination project. The intern will work closely with the members of the Team and backstops Program Assistants and consultants where necessary.

The Intern will have the opportunity to learn and work on other aspects of the Forest and Grassland Team work, including but not limited to: Land Degradation Neutrality, Forest landscape restoration, Nature-based Solutions.

The Intern will be responsible for project implementation support on the following:

• Assist in collecting data, conducting data analysis and compilation of projects’ related reports
• Assist in preparation of meetings, workshops, conferences, events, and any field work
• Support the programme team with meeting minutes and follow-up action points from project meetings
• Support the programme team by drafting summary session reports and key outcomes for project’s workshops and conferences
• Assist in projects’ reports, stories writing, scientific papers and other deliverables
• Provide communications support to document project’s outputs and the work of the Team, including:
o promoting IUCN work via social media channel and storytelling; story write-ups, publications, etc.
o finalizing projects’ publications: review, editing
• Undertake any other tasks that may be assigned by the Line manager or Head of FGT

• Project activities implemented as required by line manager
• Short articles, papers and web stories shared with IUCN members and other stakeholders and posted
• Relevant workshops and events attended and reports prepared

To be eligible for this internship, candidates must:

a) Have secured the right to live and work in Germany for the entire duration of the internship. IUCN will not provide assistance with visa or work permit applications, nor will it alter applicants’ visa status.

b) Be enrolled in a university or equivalent tertiary institution:

– Undergraduate students should have completed at least one year of full-time study.
– Graduate students should be in the process of completing their degrees.
– Be enrolled in an academic program relevant to the duties and responsibilities outlined in the Terms of Reference.

Remuneration:
Voluntary interns are compensated according to the Minimum Wage Act. Interns or their sponsoring institutions are responsible for the costs and arrangements related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.

REQUIREMENTS
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft packages including knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, and electronic communication tools

• Good organizational, administrative and reporting skills;

• Experience in report writing, especially briefs.

• Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously, including across projects;

• Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs;

• Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring in own ideas and perspective.

• Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Knowledge of another language (e.g. French a plus).
