Job description

Offer DescriptionLet’s shape the future – University of AntwerpThe is a dynamic, forward-thinking, European university. We offer an innovative academic education to more than 20000 students, conduct pioneering scientific research and play an important service-providing role in society. We are one of the largest, most international and most innovative employers in the region. With more than 6000 employees from 100 different countries, we are helping to build tomorrow’s world every day. Through top scientific research, we push back boundaries and set a course for the future – a future that you can help to shape. The Achitecture programme in the Faculty of Design Sciences is looking for a part-time (40%) visiting professor in the field of architectural design with a focus on architecture and construction.Within the module ‘Architectural design and construction’, students learn to design using the physical aspects of mass, structure, tectonics and space. Students investigate and design the relationship between the structure, space and image of landscapes and buildings. In addition, strategies for sustainable (re)use of materials and spaces are central to the design process. Moreover, students learn that structure is more than just construction. The structure of a building also manages the hierarchy of spaces and the legibility of a building, initiates organisation and size in the building, and is the substrate for designing much more into the object. Therefore, the structure of a building is of initial conceptual importance. In addition, the module is also about constructing meaning: how do materials, structure and construction help determine the cultural meaning of building and architecture? Here, the challenge of a finite world versus a seemingly unshakable paradigm of unstoppable (economic) growth, the focus on technological, ecological and social developments, the economy and the craft of building, cannot be overemphasised.PositionEducation
