Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
In this position, you will be responsible for the execution of all UAS drone operations in accordance with relevant Open, Specific, or Certified categories, including DRA-RL and other restricted-area approvals as necessary. Duties include preparing and coordinating flight plans, conducting comprehensive pre- and post-flight checks using PANSA and Bechtel systems, and maintaining compliance documentation, pilot competency records, and aircraft registration logs.
The role supports the implementation of UAS drone standard operating procedures and enforces strict adherence to site safety protocols and occupational health regulations. Key responsibilities involve scheduling flight windows in coordination with construction management, crane operators, safety personnel, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of aerial operations with ongoing construction activities. The position includes performing data acquisition for construction progress monitoring, volumetric analysis, topographic surveys, as-built verification, and inspection support. Deliverables may consist of orthomosaics, DSMs, DTMs, point clouds, and facilitating 3D model integration with BIM, CAD, and GIS platforms. Ensuring data integrity, quality control, secure storage, and traceable documentation in compliance with project and contractual requirements is essential.
This role requires advanced knowledge of Polish and EU UAS regulatory frameworks, exceptional leadership and coordination abilities, technical proficiency in photogrammetry and LiDAR systems, and the capability to lead safe, compliant, and efficient drone operations within highly complex construction environments.
Major Responsibilities:
• Maintain coordination of all UAS activities on site, including scheduling, flight approvals, and integration with construction operations.
• Ensure all drone operations are conducted under the appropriate Open, Specific (including DRA-RL, when applicable), or Certified category authorization.
• Verify and maintain pilot qualifications, operator registration, aircraft marking, and remote ID compliance.
• Enforce UAS Standard Operating Procedures, aligned with Bechtel EU and Polish regulations.
• Coordinate with supervisor, construction management, HSE, crane operators, and security to ensure safe separation between aerial and ground activities.
• Supervise and perform UAS drone operations and conduct briefings and safety meetings prior to flight operations.
• Inspect equipment and submit flight request, pre and post flight inspection checklist and coordinate all aspects of the field execution of the flight.
• Maintain aircraft, payload systems, calibration records, maintenance logs, and flight documentation.
• Conduct data acquisition for progress tracking, volumetric analysis, topographic mapping, inspections, and as-built documentation.
• Ensure quality control, accuracy validation, secure storage, and traceable documentation of all deliverables.
• UAS deliverables/outputs (orthomosaics, DSMs, DTMs, point clouds, 3D models) with BIM, CAD, and GIS systems.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and/or 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Maintain a Valid UAS operator registration
• Comprehensive understanding of EASA regulatory framework (EU 2019/947 and 2019/945).
• Knowledge of Polish UAS operational requirements, including ULC registration and PANSA airspace authorization procedures.
• Familiarity with DRA-RL and restricted airspace operations within Poland.
• Understanding of construction site safety regulations and occupational health requirements.
• Knowledge of photogrammetry, LiDAR systems, GNSS, RTK/PPK workflows, and geospatial accuracy standards.
• Data processing proficiency in industry-standard photogrammetric and GIS software.
