Job title:

Two-year postdoc position in Infection Microbiology at Rigshospitalet

Company:

Rigshospitalet

Job description

The Infection Microbiology Group at Rigshospitalet (RH) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has developed a strong platform for investigations of persistent bacterial infections in human airways. We now seek a molecular microbiologist at the postdoctoral level, who has an excellent expertise in microbial genetics and a broad experience in -omics technologies and related data analysis. Documented experience in bacterial strain development (e.g. CRISPR genome editing) together with integrated molecular analyses of bacterial populations (meta-genomics and -transcriptomics) constitute a central profile of the preferred applicants. The position will be placed at the main hospital in Denmark, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark. The proposed start date of this position is October 1, 2024, and will terminate in September 2026 (two-years).The research in the Infection Microbiology Group at RH/DTU is part of a Novo Nordisk Foundation Challenge grant (PERFECTION) that covers bacterial phenotypes associated with one of the most urgent challenges in our society – antibiotic resistance undermining effective treatment of human bacterial infections. In the Infection Microbiology Group, headed by Professor, Consultant Helle Krogh Johansen, Rigshospitalet and Professor Søren Molin, DTU, you will be working with a common aim towards bridging the gap between academic biomedicine projects and their clinical applications. We aim at establishing and integrating a workflow, from synthetic and systems biology through genomic engineering, multi-omic data generation from bench-scale infection models, and comparisons with clinical investigations of infected patients. The Group has a total staff of approx. 10 employees, comprising a highly motivated team of engineers, scientists, clinicians, and students to tackle this challenging task. We have recently developed a miniature organ infection model (‘organoids’), which is the basis for multi-omics and bioprocess data analysis. We further design strategies for identifying and testing biomarkers for improved clinical diagnostics as well as the action of new and old types of antibiotics.Important and required qualifications of the preferred applicants are:

  • Broad experience in microbial genetics and strain constructions
  • Expertise in bacterial growth and phenotypic characterization
  • Experience with different -omics methods
  • Excellent writing skills

Additional knowledge and experience in cell culture growth and maintenance is desirable but not required. In addition, you must

  • enjoy working with complex topics
  • thrive on collaboration/teamwork with a focus on the process as well as the outcome
  • believe in dialogue and feedback as the best foundation for sound decision-making

What we offer in return
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international cross-disciplinary atmosphere with the focus on research, education, innovation, and translation of basic science results to clinical applications for the benefit of patients. We offer a great flexibility in the position, spanning several hospitals and DTU departments.Salary and terms of employment
