The Department of Quantitative Economics (QE) of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) is looking for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Operations Research.Job Description
In this role, you will play a key part in advancing research and education in the fields of Operations Research and Operations Management.Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching: You will be responsible for delivering courses within the Econometrics and Operations Research programs, as well as contributing to the business and economics programs at the School of Business and Economics (SBE). Your teaching will span both undergraduate and graduate levels, helping to shape the next generation of leaders in these fields.
- Research: You will contribute to the robust research initiatives of the Graduate School of Business and Economics. Our Quantitative Economics (QE) department is renowned for its excellence in the mathematics of operations research, econometrics, and economic theory.
- Program Development: The QE department is a cornerstone of our bachelor’s and master’s programs in Econometrics and Operations Research, which also encompass Mathematical Economics and Actuarial Science. Each year, we welcome around 90 bachelor’s students and 35 master’s students into these programs, and you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of education we provide.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A PhD (or near completion) in Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- A demonstrated research aptitude, with a strong orientation towards advancing knowledge in relevant areas of Operations Research and Operations Management.
- Experience in academic instruction, particularly within the field of Operations Research.
- A collegial and collaborative disposition, with a commitment to contributing to the department’s research and teaching objectives.
- Proficiency in English, both written and oral, as the medium of instruction is English.
Candidates with expertise in Combinatorial Optimization, Mathematical Programming, Approximation Algorithms, Data Analytics, and/or Logistics are particularly encouraged to apply.What we offer
As Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Operations Research at School of Business and Economics, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
- Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 according to UFO profile Assistant Professor, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4492,00 and €6148,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
- An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
- At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

The Department of Quantitative Economics teaches and conducts research in the areas of mathematics of Operations Research / Operations Management, Econometrics, Economic Theory, and Actuarial Science. Both in teaching and in research it achieves excellent standards. The department is structured in three groups: Econometrics, Mathematical Economics, Operations Research. These groups cooperate in offering courses for various BSc and MSc programmes.
