ROLE TITLE: Temporary Paralegal/Legal Assistant

FUNCTION: Legal

REPORTING: General Counsel – Data and Technology / Data Protection Offices

LOCATION: Basingstoke – Hybrid, working 2-3 days a week in the office.

ROLE PURPOSE

Working closely with the Group General Counsel, the General Counsel – Data & Technology, the Group Data Protection Officer and the rest of the Legal team, the role of Paralegal / Legal Assistant is an integral part of the high quality of services we provide to our in-house business client base. Liaising with business stakeholders on a regular basis to ensure the smooth running of proceedings will be key.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To support the smooth running of a busy legal and data protection function within the wider commercial team with appropriate administrative and paralegal support.

  • Drafting various contracts from standard forms, negotiate (under close supervision from the General Counsel – Data & Technology), conclude and then track contracts at various stages of execution, including licence agreements, contractual/commercial agreements, confidentiality agreements, procurement agreements and other required documentation.

  • Working closely with the Glory commercial teams and HR to assist them with concluding agreements and to provide them with initial advice on legal queries.

  • Maintaining a weekly worklist to report up.

  • Maintaining a contracts lifecycle management software; assisting as necessary to prepare amendment agreements/new contracts.

  • Assisting with projects (e.g. data protection updates, AI governance matters and legal dept. initiatives).

  • Recording and assisting with response to Data Protection Agreements, Data Subject Access Requests, customer privacy queries and complaints.

  • Carry out Data Protection Privacy Impact Assessments on business functions and projects.

  • Assisting with contentious matters, including review of existing agreements and correspondence, and research on legal issues.

  • Assisting with keeping precedents (e.g. licensing agreements) and policies (e.g. environment and health and safety policies) up to date.

  • Conducting due diligence on documents to ensure compliance with applicable sanctions and anti-corruption laws including the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK Bribery Act and OFAC and EU sanctions.

  • Providing general office support such as maintaining and organising master files of signed agreements.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Education Level:

  • Excellent academic credentials required

  • Ideally have a law degree or equivalent

  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in data protection and have worked with Contract Lifecycle Management software.

    Relevant Previous Work Experience

  • Previous in-house or law firm experience required.

  • Previous experience in the industry preferred but not essential.

  • Previous experience in dealing with international businesses preferred but not essential.

  • Must be well organized, efficient and have ability to prioritize and work well under pressure.

  • Must have ability to handle multiple tasks and meet conflicting deadlines.

  • Must have excellent attention to detail and strong writing and communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment and determine when consultation with others (such as lawyers, sales executives etc.) is required.

  • Must have the ability to understand and analyse agreements and other legal documents.

  • Must be a good team player.
