This post is full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week.To work as a Fashion Technician, delivering a range of customer-focused technical services within the Fashion Design team across the DCDI College, supporting the School of Media and Communication and the School of Arts. This role involves providing support to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as the core activities of the College, Schools and their users.The post requires a Fashion Technician, who can provide technical support and assistance to students in their practical coursework, focusing on fashion design and garment production. You will conduct workshops on the use of industry-standard fashion equipment such as sewing machines, overlockers, industrial steam irons and other specialised equipment. Your role will also involve participating in and supporting the end of year fashion show.The successful candidate is expected to have strong knowledge of digital fashion technologies, including (but not limited to) CAD/CAM, CLO3D, body scanners, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. They should also be capable of supporting stakeholders interested in these tools, with the potential to develop and lead workshops as this area evolves.As the successful candidate you will ensure that all fashion studio facilities, equipment, and materials are properly maintained, organised and readily available. Additionally, you will implement health and safety compliance measures and conduct risk assessments tailored to the fashion studio environment. You will work closely with academic staff to enhance the student learning experience and maintain high standards of technical service for colleagues, students and external clients.

The chosen applicant will possess strong technical knowledge of fashion design and garment construction processes, including pattern cutting, draping, sewing, and garment finishing, alongside proficiency in understanding fabrics and fabric manipulation. Any familiarity with textile processes as well as prior experience in a fashion studio environment, particularly within an educational setting, is advantageous.To apply for this vacancy please click above.
