Job description

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking to recruit a Technician to support the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (SoGEES).You will work as part of a team under the direction of the School Technical Manager and deliver support to teaching and research activities in predominantly Earth Sciences and Geography but this could include Chemistry and Environmental Sciences.It is essential that you have a formal qualification such as an NVQ/BTEC level 3 or 4 or equivalent in a role related subject area and have previous experience of working in a laboratory environment. Familiarity with microscopes, reagents, chemicals, basic laboratory instrumentation and Health and Safety is required. The role involves supporting the organisation of equipment for practical classes, fieldwork activites and associated stores. As such, you must be physically fit because bending, stretching and lifting will be required.As the role may support fieldwork activities, it would be desirable for you to have a full current driving licence with a willingness to travel to different locations.You must be able to engage with students and colleagues in a courteous and constructive manner and prioritise and complete work to deadlines.
