Job Title: Technical Service Engineer NGS

Position Location: Inchinnan (UK) or Madrid (Spain)

Position Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Service Engineer to join our NGS IT team. As a Technical Service Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to apply your expertise in IT & hardware NGS products providing pre- and post-sales support for Life Science Solutions (Life Science products), to improve customer experience and contribute to the overall success of our company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth operation, security, and efficiency of Linux-based systems within our CSD Business organization. The TSE IT works closely with the bioinformatics team to handle the work tickets, dispatch Field resources, and raise customer issues as necessary.

  • Triages, qualifies, fixes, provides advice or solutions to problems to drive customer technical issues to resolution by using all available resources.

  • Responsible for achieving instruments uptime goals (MTTR, Resolution cycle Time, Remote Resolution, CAS)

  • Completes required administration duties and is knowledgeable of TSE admin duties (labor hours entry, expense reporting, etc…)

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • May be required to travel occasionally to customer´s sites, training center and office

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or M.Sc and PhD ), Software Engineering, IT or related field, or BBA in ICT or Datanome or Vocational Qualification in Information Technology (https://www.sanakirja.org/search.php?id=4281803&l2=17)

Experience desired:

  • Proficiency in Information Technology and/or Software Development/Testing, including knowledge of up-to-date cloud solutions, cloud-based services, and Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Experience of working in a Windows and LINUX environment is critical

  • Experience with Network TCP/IP, Firewalls, Active Directory, etc. a must.

  • Demonstrable experience with Linux-based systems, particularly Ubuntu.

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools.

  • Shown understanding of networking principles and network security

  • Experience with data management and database optimization.

  • Familiarity with web server administration and virtualization management.

  • IT knowledge and basic system administration skills are required.

  • Strong system-level debugging and IT problem solving/trouble-shooting skills required.

  • In addition, a bilingual language skills proficient in English with Italian or Spanish is an advantage (level C1 oral & written)
