An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Physiology & Sport Technical Team at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Technical Specialist in Magnetic Resonance Research Radiographer.The post holder will be part of a vibrant technical community for research and teaching delivery. Specifically, you will develop magnetic resonance techniques and equipment to deliver an imaging service for academics, researchers, and students (undergraduate and postgraduate) across our four faculties. Linking with wider specialist laboratories, workshops, studios, and IT facilities, you will become a key part of our technical professional support structure, guiding, and advising across the sciences, art, design and technology, through to sports, nursing and physiotherapy. We are a forward-looking service committed to a strong culture of continuous improvement, and we are passionate about providing the best customer service to our staff and students.The Role:We are recruiting a technical specialist in magnetic resonance (with a background in clinical research radiography, clinical science, or other related imaging field/science) to take a leading role in operating a research-dedicated 3T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, UK.We have invested strongly in our Institute of Sport; to become a global leader in sports education and research to improve human health across the lifespan. New research and teaching spaces provide a unique range of human performance laboratories and imaging for detailed investigations of athletes, patients, and the public. These facilities sit within the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and serve the wider university as a beacon for research excellence and collaboration.The main responsibility will be operation of a Siemens 3T MAGNETOM Vida MRI for a range of ongoing research projects. You will liaise with a wide group of interested academics to help meet the needs of their research projects. A variety of dedicated multi-nuclear coils are available alongside MR compatible peripheral research equipment (including cycle ergometry, dynamometry, neuro stimulation, EEG, fNIRS and other physiological monitoring/stimulation devices).As a technical specialist with a focus on research imaging you will also have opportunities to contribute to the organisation and running of pQCT, DEXA and ultrasound imaging facilities. About You:As a technical specialist, the successful candidate should be suitably qualified, and bring experience of operating magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to collect high quality images, possessing knowledge in a wide range of scanning sequences. They must also have experience of developing and adhering to health and safety procedures, managing patients from making appointments and collecting medical history, through to preparation for scanning, connecting physiological signal leads and debriefing patients afterwards. HCPC registration would be advantageous for this role.You will have a flexible approach to work and an ability to work on your own initiative. You will have a proactive mindset and have exceptional problem-solving skills. You will be expected to participate in relevant external networks and user groups, attend relevant events/conferences to keep up to date with the latest developments and techniques and share information with colleagues.
