Job Description:Grade UE07: £39,347 – £46,974 per annum pro-rata if part-timeCollege of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences / School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures / Department of European Languages and CulturesFull-time: 35 hours per weekFixed-term: 10 monthsTenable from 1 September 2024 to 30 June 2025The Opportunity:Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term post as Teaching Fellow in French and Francophone Studies, in the Department of European Languages and Cultures at University of Edinburgh. This role is intended to cover aspects of teaching and administration during a colleague’s planned absence. The post is full-time (35 hours per week) and fixed-term for ten months, available from September 2024 to the end of June 2025.The successful candidate will hold a degree in a relevant area and show demonstrable success of teaching French language and Francophone literature and culture in a Higher Education context. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English, with an ability to teach the French language at all levels. They will be expected to contribute to the administration of the subject area, including course organisation. The appointee may also be required to supervise Honours dissertations and support student learning through pastoral meetings, as well as potentially contributing to the delivery of MSc programmes (such as Comparative Literature, Intermediality, and Translation Studies), depending on requirements during the appointment.The post holder will play an active role in the administrative tasks of the Section, Department and School, as appropriate, and deliver and convene courses for the French degree programmes and beyond. They will also be required to design and teach modules on contemporary Francophone culture (including literature, cinema and/or other media). The successful candidate may be involved in developing innovative pedagogical materials designed to strengthen discussions regarding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as part of broader efforts to question and decolonise our curriculum.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Degree in a relevant area.
  • Experience and demonstrable success in delivering effective university teaching in French language and Francophone culture.
  • Fluency and excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
  • An ability to design and teach modules on contemporary Francophone culture, and an ability to teach translation between French and English.
  • Potential to design and lead supervisory activities for undergraduate students.
