Location: South Kensington Campus, LondonJob Summary:The Department of Mathematics wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Applied Mathematics, to be in post as soon as possible.We aim to offer all of our students a world-leading, rigorous, evidence-based, inclusive educational experience embedded in a vibrant research environment. Our new Learning and Teaching Strategy, launched in June 2017, sets out an ambitious programme of work aimed at establishing Imperial as a global leader in innovative, evidence-based education. Implementation of the Strategy will be underpinned by significant new investment in education which will support new, innovative, evidence-based teaching and learning methods across the College.Duties and responsibilitiesYour main duties will be the delivery of modules to both mathematics undergraduates and MSc level students, and ancillary applied mathematics modules managed by the Applied Section of the Department of Mathematics. You will also carry out personal tutoring, problem classes and project supervision work within the Department of Mathematics. In particular, you will supervise research projects relating to scientific computing and/or machine learning within our Scientific Computing and Machine Learning stream of the Applied Mathematics MSc.Essential requirements

  • You will hold a MSc degree (or equivalent) with a substantial Mathematics components and have completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in Mathematics.
  • You will also have, or be working towards, a recognised teaching qualification, or be able to demonstrate experience in a formal teaching environment.
  • A specialist knowledge of Applied Mathematics, or closely related field, and of teaching methods and techniques within the field of mathematics is essential. You must have recent experience and proven competence of teaching or tutoring at an undergraduate level, and be able to demonstrate the potential to teach Mathematics effectively and enthusiastically at an undergraduate level.
  • You must have experience of promoting effective learning and interaction with students, together with an ability to motivate mathematics students in the study of Applied Mathematics.
  • The ability to contribute to the research profile of the Department is highly desirable.
