Pupil Referral Unit Teaching AssistantA new vacancy has opened at a SEMH provision, specifically looking for a skilled Learning Assistant with an excellent understanding of the social, emotional, and behavioural development of children and young individuals. The setting is a Pupil Referral Unit for 11-18 year olds who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education.The role:– Work 1-1 and in small groups with students to assist in the delivery of lessons for students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges.– Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the social and emotional well-being of students.– Implement behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours and support students in developing coping mechanisms.– Act as a mentor and role model for SEMH students, promoting positive relationships and self-esteem.– Support students in developing social skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.– Work closely with external agencies, such as psychologists or counsellors, to provide comprehensive support for students.Ideal candidates will have experience dealing with challenging behaviour within a mainstream or PRU setting, however this is not essential as long as you can demonstrate a commitment to supporting vulnerable students within a specialist environment.This role is a great opportunity for those with relevant experience such as:Those from a background in education, care or the support of vulnerable people; graduates from Psychology, Criminology, Sociology; educators wanting to gain SEN/SEMH experience.You will need to have suitable references and a DBS certificate (or be eligible to apply).This is a full-time role from 8:30 to 3.30 Monday-Friday.
