Teaching Assistant with Responsibility to Support Medical Needs

Location: Woking, Surrey, GU22 7AT

Salary: Starting from A£20,610 per annum (equivalent to A£26,538 FTE)

Hours: Term Time between 8:30 – 3:30, (32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks a year).

The Academy Trust and School are seeking a caring and professional individual to take up the role from September 2024.

They are fortunate to be set in a beautiful 7-acre site within walking distance of Woking town centre and train station. The Park School provides education for 110 secondary aged students all of whom have learning difficulties and additional needs. The role will be to work with specific students to support their medical needs.

The Role

They are looking for a Teaching Assistant to work with specific students to support their medical and learning needs, to remove any barriers to learning, so that they can achieve their potential.

You will need to have:

* A calm, friendly and professional manner
* A positive approach to working with students with complex needs
* The ability to work in partnership with parents, staff and external professionals
* The ability to carry out basic medical procedures day-to-day
* Good communication skills and record keeping
* To contribute to the safeguarding and promote the welfare of children and young people

Key Responsibilities

* Oversee the day-to-day medical procedures for students in school including diabetes management and intimate care.
* Administer first aid to students.
* Administer prescribed medication or pain relief to students.
* Keep accurate records of any medical procedures/medicine administration.
* Monitor and evaluate student progress.
* Update student Individual Healthcare Plans with the support of the SENDCo team.
* Preparation for trips and offsite activities for students with medical needs.
* Liaise with parents/carers, staff and external professionals as required.
* Provide clerical/administrative support to the assigned teacher, e.g. photocopying, typing, filing and record-keeping.

Skills and Qualifications

* Understanding of and commitment to key safeguarding responsibilities as outlined by the Department of Education
* Basic IT skills, including typing and photocopying
* Willingness to train and lead on diabetes management including injecting insulin, intimate care including catheterisation.
* Have a calm, approachable and professional manner
* Good communication skill both verbally and in writing
* Be able to follow instructions with precision
* An ability to establish fair, respectful, trusting and supportive and constructive relationships with students and staff
* Be able to work collaboratively with others to produce excellent outcomes
* A commitment to working with colleagues, parents and carers in a respectful manner to provide the best for students

Previous experience of working with students with learning difficulties or in an educational setting is desirable but not essential.

All training can be provided.
