Subsidiary Finance Lead – Austria in Vienna, Austria

We are hiring the Subsidiary Finance Lead for Microsoft Austria Commercial Business. This role is a key role for the MS Austria Subsdiary and will be part of the Leadership team of the subsidiary and also of the Western Europe Finance Leadership team. This role is accountable for executing all finance deliverables to enable sustainable long-term growth. As the country Finance Lead, you have the opportunity to impact business results and operational effectiveness across a breadth of functions and foster business led compliance. This is an individual contributor role who will coordinate other functions in a matrixed environment.

Responsibilities

Prioritize

  • Consults with business leaders on implications of results and operating revenue and expenses; provides guidance to achieving objectives and maximizing return-on-investment (e.g., operational efficiencies, resource allocation, vendor agreements, etc.). Drives resource allocation and identifies opportunities for optimization and prioritization. Advises business partners on headcount and Profit & Loss (P&L) processes and requirements. Performs and reviews analysis, modeling, and research of present and future financial performance, financial plans (e.g., expected returns, resource allocation, pricing, investment opportunities, revenue, operational metrics, productivity metrics), and economic transactions (e.g., customer deals, commercial partnerships, acquisitions). Prepares and summarizes recommendations.

  • Works directly with business partners to translate top-down targets to an accountable budget for each group. Completes and reviews analysis, modeling, and research to support preliminary and adjusted forecast cycles. Develops and tests financial models. Partners and solicits insight from business and commercial stakeholders. Manages financial plans, budgets, and forecasts to support strategic decision-making.

  • Delivers results through tracking performance, reporting accuracy, and partnering with business leaders to ensure execution of plans and accountability for results. Helps to ensure the accurate and timely rhythm of business reporting including key performance indicators (KPIs), monthly close, and budgeting. Generates relevant and actionable insights to drive the business forward.

  • Conceptualizes and designs new approaches and metrics to how relevant financial data is collected and evaluated to impact future outcomes and decisions. Investigates and resolves discrepancies in data to ensure reliability. Performs risk management practices by analyzing the data management flows/sources for completeness and accuracy. Acts as subject matter expert for data management and operations.

Partnership

  • Shares business insights and advances solutions and action plans to drive business and commercial leader goals and short-term accountabilities. Provides credible insights into industry benchmarks and consumer trends, performance improvements, and growth. Facilitates to resolve complex issues. Manages and executes processes through engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Applies understanding of the broader Microsoft context to offer solutions to ensure organizational objectives are met. Develops and manages strategies to proactively mitigate, or reactively address, potential adverse effects of macroeconomic and/or geopolitical risks. Articulates a comprehensive view of financial results and approaches leaders can implement based on a deep understanding of business partner and counterpart work context and situation. Considers competing views and alternative solutions when formulating recommendations for financial plans and forecasts.

  • Collaborates on improvements through automation. Applies understanding of advanced technology to accomplish business goals and to provide greater depth of analysis.

  • Understands the interconnections between data, information, and results and translates this into forward-looking narratives and forecasts. Generates actionable plans based on complex results, ambiguous findings, and multi-year time horizons. Participates in and influences business partner situations understanding and awareness.

  • Develops and leverages relationships with business partners to bolster sales, and to understand and manage business risk. Designs and negotiates solutions to complex financial issues with business partners. Collects customer and partner feedback data and applies data analysis techniques to improve experience. Serves as an advocate for Microsoft and its partners. Manages balance between customer centricity, enablement of sales, and cost-effectiveness.

Protect

  • Drives the right tone from executive leadership and ensures strict adherence and understanding of Microsoft policies on risk and compliance. Influences leadership to ensure compliance is a top priority and modeled throughout the organization. Drives a compliant culture through actions and decisions to instill trust. Advocates, educates, and promotes best practices and new developments. Encourages asking questions and identifying risks to compliance. Champions financial compliance standards, Microsoft privacy, security, and ethical standards. Advances key compliance initiatives. Where appropriate, reviews all financial statements, reports, and filings for all country, federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (including US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings and disclosures).

  • Monitors comprehensive system of accounting policies, procedures, and controls that span all accounting operations. Maintains control process and procedures regarding accounting, stat, non-financial disclosures, and regulatory filings. Ensures proper financial and accounting infrastructure to maintain reporting requirements.

  • Creates alignment between business stakeholders and internal audit team. Reviews and discusses audit findings with representatives to illustrate how all accounting, tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements guide business operations and company policies. 

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND significant experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field

  • OR Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.

  • Work experience in matrix-based organizations.

  • Work experience in the technology or software industry.
