This is us …
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as over 100 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at seven sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.
This team needs your support …
You will be part of the group »Advanced Seismic Technologies« at our site in Bremen. At present, our team consists of five research associates and several students. Our group is specialized in the development of seismoacoustic equipment. These technologies are used for seismic subsurface investigation and enable long-term environmentally friendly, efficient, and reliable investigation of the geological subsurface for offshore wind farms. Become an active member of the team; we are keen to hear your ideas! As an international oriented IWES-team, we highly appreciate an open exchange, whether this be in German or English. Respectful cooperation is also very important to us. You are wondering what you can bring to the team?
What you will do
These duties await you …
You will support us in the evaluation of data from acoustic sensors and seismic equipment. To do this, you will use programming languages such as Python, Julia or MATLAB to create algorithms and integrate signal processing, data analysis and visualization. You will also be responsible for system analyses on acoustic sensors for subsurface investigation. This involves investigating parameters such as sensitivity, noise reduction, and signal-to-noise ratio to improve sensor performance. Additionally, you will assist us with oscillation analysis and beamforming, a technique used in underwater acoustics and seismic to locate targeted acoustic or seismic signals. Finite element modeling to analyze and optimize seismic devices and acoustic sensors is also part of your job. That is not enough for you? You will also get to know the field of seismic processing, where you will help us process data to gain information about the subsurface and geological structures. This involves filtering, comparing, and analyzing data sets, as well as developing algorithms to improve data quality.
What you bring to the table
What is your background?
Are you studying Electrical Engineering, Hydroacoustics, Acoustics, Geophysics or something comparable in your bachelor’s or master’s degree? You want to work offshore and at best you already have basic knowledge in the field of hydroacoustics or seismics. Furthermore, you are willing to get deeply involved in the topic on your own? Then we are looking forward to your application!
What you can expect
What we can offer you …
We offer various opportunities to join us as a student. Whether it is an internship, where you gain a comprehensive insight into the areas of work, or the role of a student assistant, which is easy to combine with your studies. Are you looking for an exciting topic for your thesis and do you want to delve deeply into a topic scientifically? Together, we will find the right path for you! We know that studying can also be very demanding and requires a certain level of flexibility. That is no problem here, as – in agreement with your colleagues – you can decide flexibly what days and hours to work.
