Join our Team!We have some exciting opportunities available at Barking and Dagenham College. We are looking for six motivated and learner-centred Student Liaison Officers.The salary scale for this role is: £28,400 – £30,801 inc. London Weighting pro rata’d p.a. Term Time working 36 hours per week, 38 weeks per year.The Student Liaison Officer will report to the Student Liaison Manager. You will be able to provide and demonstrate a positive role model to students and promote good behaviour by engaging with students and staff and responding in a professional manner to de-escalate confrontational situations which may occur in the College from time to time. You will be an integral part of the cross -college student services and support team monitoring student behaviours, when appropriate.You will promote and encourage a positive college ethos at all times, reporting more serious poor behaviour to the Duty Manager by phone or in person. You will be adept at report writing, and able to exhibit a high level of communication, interpersonal and presentations skills and able to liaise and work collaboratively with professionals from other agencies.The role:Our Student Liaison Officers are based across campuses, maintaining a strong presents around the College in order to monitor student activity. You will be able to keep a log of student incidents and re-occurrences. You will be able to investigate security matters which require attention and provide advice and assistance as necessary.Key responsibilities of our Student Liaison Officers:

  • Able to react immediately to incidents and disturbances, using a range of interventions to successfully resolve conflict.
  • Available to work on a daytime and evening shift – as directed by the Student Liaison Manager.
  • Acting and training as an onsite First Aider, Mental health First aider and Fire Warden.
  • Make disciplinary referrals where appropriate and provide evidence such as CCTV footage or statements for disciplinary hearings as and when needed.
  • Ability to facilitate and contribute to good neighbourly relationships, ensuring effective communication channels with the local Police, PCSO, school liaison Officer and/ or local community groups
  • Monitor and support facilitate student social spaces such as the common room

Our ideal Student Liaison Officers will have:

  • Experience of working in an education environment
  • Behaviour management, de-escalation and/or relevant qualification that support student safety aims.
  • Understanding of Child and Vulnerable Adult protection (Safeguarding Agenda) and the willingness to increase knowledge
  • Contribute on a team basis; you must be capable of working as member of a team with a flexible and adaptable approach to business needs.
