Job title:

Staff Engineer – Backend Generalist – RUM

Company:

Datadog

Job description

Datadog Real User Monitoring (RUM) provides deep insight into applications’ frontend performance. Customers can monitor real user data in order to optimize web performance and provide exceptional user experiences. They can also correlate issues with backend metrics, traces, logs, and their synthetic tests in a single place to quickly identify and troubleshoot performance issues across their stack. We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join RUM’s data platform backend group to drive new projects in the context of RUM’s portfolio, including Session Replay and Product Analytics. In this role, you will partner closely with engineering and product managers within and outside of the department to help shape our roadmap; design and lead initiatives across the stack; and actively help in strengthening our engineering practices and culture.Datadog’s Staff Engineers are our technical leaders operating at the forefront of technology, building solutions that take us through at least our next five years of growth.
They do this in three major ways – as individual contributors, they bring world class technical abilities to deliver industry leading systems; as technical leaders they bring experienced technical breadth and communication skills to tackling design and architectural problems spanning the organization, charting the right course, then leading delivery. In both roles they participate in the staff engineering community and help us learn from what the industry is doing and what we’ve built before, and so improve company wide standards around software and systems engineering. At Datadog, we place value in our office culture – the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.Who you’ll do:

  • Design and drive high-priority, high-visibility projects to make RUM the best frontend monitoring platform on the market.
  • Provide technical leadership across organizational boundaries to ensure maximum delivery efficiency.
  • Lead and guide other engineers through architectural platform decisions.
  • Provide input on prioritizing engineering-led planning and roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with internal product teams to design solutions that meet our customer needs.

  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • 4+ years of technical leadership experience, including both effective communication of complex concepts and experience coordinating across teams to ship critical products
  • You have significant backend programming experience. You have architected, built, and operated complex backend systems to solve problems at high scale.
  • You have a customer-focused mindset and a relentless drive to build products that address their needs.
  • Experience in building browser or mobile applications is a plus.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That’s okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.Benefits and Growth:
