Job Description
As a Sr. Staff Application Engineer in our Renesas Power Computing BU, you will be a key player in driving innovation and exploring state-of-the-art and new concepts topologies for DC/DC converters, delivering the always increasing huge amount of power required by modern AI/compute ASIC’s. It is a very dynamic market where smart ideas, quick execution and flexibility are required. You will engage cross functionally with a diverse team including systems engineering, IC design, application, packaging, technology and marketing teams, providing look ahead capability in the areas of electrical, magnetic, electronic, and digital.
The role will be in a team of experienced engineers specializing in power converter design, implementation and testing. You will give your apport from the proof of concept of a new converter design, through the building of detailed simulation models to the definition of new silicon product in this area aimed to increase power density, improve reliability, reduce the cost, give scalability and flexibility to the system.
Part of the role responsibility is also the correlation and the collection of the necessary bench data. The update, the tuning and the progressive improvement of the converter along with the customization of the proposed solution following the customers’ requirements
Key Responsibilities
This role supports both technology pathfinding and execution by providing comprehensive modeling throughout the product lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
- Data analysis and data collections from real converter products measurements
- Simplis electrical model of the converter
- Automatic measurements set-up (authomation)
- Supporting new product definition
- Study of new topologies
- Follow PCB design giving suggestions on component placing and layout itself
Qualifications
- This role requires deep technical strength in high performance power converter.
- Proved experience of more than 5-10 years in design, development and test of high and low voltage power converter.
- Good knowledge of control loop implementation and requirements, full understanding of resonant power converter technic, capability to manage magnetic component design and new product definition.
- Broad technical capability/exposure will be combined with excellent technical communication skills.
- Typical requirements are a minimum of 15-20 years of relevant semiconductor and systems experience.
- MS degree in engineering (EE – power electronics preferred). Former experience in simulation tools PYTON are appreciated.
