Do you have a passion for neonatal care and a desire to make a network-wide impact on education? The North-west Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NWNODN) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Neonatal Medical Education Fellow to join our team. As Medical Education fellow, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic Network support service across the NWNODN. The post-holder will support the strategic and operational delivery of the NWNODN education strategy over a fixed term period of one year. This will be as part of a joint post shared with the regional Neonatal Transport Service, Connect NW which is the busiest service in the UK and offers excellent experience within the field of Neonatal Transport. The post would suit an ST6 to 8 Neonatal Grid Trainee, seeking an out of programme placement, or a candidate with equivalent experience who is enthusiastic about medical education. The post is available on a full time basis for one year with an anticipated start date of March 2025. Candidates who wish to undertake a formal academic educational qualification will be supported financially to do so.Main duties of the jobFor the clinical component of the post, you will be based at the brand new Connect NW operational centre in Warrington, which has excellent educational and staff well being facilities. You will work alongside an experienced team of Consultants, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Transport Nurses providing a comprehensive 24/7 transfer service to 22 neonatal units within the NW region. The team are supported by administrative staff working within the cot bureau and a dedicated fleet of high quality ambulances.The educational aspects of the post will primarily relate to the implementation of the BAPM Neonatal Airway Safety Standard in units across the NWNODN, developing educational resources and delivering multi-discipliniary training through simulation and other educational packages.About usMFT is one of the largest NHS Trust In England with a turnover of £2.8bn & is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. Job responsibilitiesThe post will be offered as an out of programme placement as a specialty doctor, with 10 Programmed Activities per week split equally between the education and transport role. The education element will be undertaken during normal working hours, however the transport component will involve a mixture of day, night and weekend shifts.The educational aspects will involve undertaking an assessment of existing practices surrounding airway management and then to develop and deliver a broad package of educational measures to support the successful implementation of the BAPM framework.Within the clinical transport hours you will work as part of the team undertaking a variety of emergency and elective neonatal transfers, participating in conference calls for complex patients and ensuring that appropriate decisions are made according to agreed pathways. There are considerable opportunities also to gain experience within clinical governance and medical management.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Medical Degree
  • Minimum five years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part-time or flexible basis), at least three of which must be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty
  • MRCPCH & NLS Provider
  • Minimum of two years experience in Neonatology of which 12 months must be in an NICU setting
  • Proficient at the common neonatal practical skills including: Intubation, central arterial and venous line insertion, chest drain insertion

Desirable

  • Neonatal Grid Trainee ST6-8

Teaching and Audit
Essential

  • Teaching medical students, junior medical and multi-disciplinary staff
  • Experience of audit and clinical governance
  • Enthusiasm for and interest in training & education
