Specialist, Technical Assistance Centre

Job Location:   Spain // Portugal

Function:          Operations & Engineering

 

Role purpose and key accountabilities:

-Level 3 Network Engineer to work within a highly experienced team with full responsibility for all network assets of COLT.
-Undertake administration, configuration, support, design and documentation of network with Cisco , Juniper routers, Nexus and catalyst switches  and firewalls
-3rd level support and implementation of networks and also access control of the networks.
-Provides 3rd level technical assistance for assigned networks and internal Level 2 Colt Operations teams.
-Experience working with fairly large sized Service provider core and metro networks.
-Network design authority for all bespoke solutions.
-Technical representative for new technology introductions and new service introductions.
-Control the deployment of all major technical network enhancements.
-To work with network engineering on the testing of new software/hardware before deployment.
-Control the interface and relationship with technology vendors
-Control network access and security
-Control Network Optimisation.
-Operational Engineering
 

Role Specific Requirements:
Skills & Experience:

-Typically has previous experience at 3rd level support level or above within a major IT vendor or Blue Chip company
-Expert level Technical knowledge of Cisco and Juniper based MPLS-VPN core network design.
-Expert level knowledge in to IP protocols ISIS, BGP, MPLS, Segment routing etc.
-Knowledge on MPLS L2VPN technologies especially Cisco based Ethernet Technologies
-Expert level understanding of Ethernet protocols and service topologies used in Colt Ethernet service portfolio like P2P, H&S, EPN, DCA services.
-Expert level understanding of Ethernet technologies and protocols.
-Expert level knowledge in Routing and Switching protocols.
-Hands on experience with Cisco IOS XR based Service provider class and Metro Ethernet routers.
-Knowledge and expertise in Segment routing based  SP core networks is a Plus.
-Cisco experience in Routing Switching and Service provider technologies.
-Knowledge of and experience using packet capture tools
-Good working knowledge of VPN Technologies
-Proven experience of working in a distributed, multiple technology environment
-Excellent communication and Relational skills
-Has a logical/methodical approach to fault finding.
-Quickly assesses priorities and confidently suggests appropriate business decisions
-Controls complex technical situations in a serene and professional manner
-The ability to write clear and concise technical documents.
-The ability to deliver technical training.
-Project management skills.
-Flexible approach and an ability to operate effectively with uncertainty and change; operates effectively in a highly complex matrix organisation
-Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
-Personal focus on continuous improvement and innovation
-Proactive in responding to customer needs and requirements
-The ability to tie at management level and grasp the commercial impact on decisions.
-Minimum of 10 to 12 years of experience out of which last 2-3 years in a similar role.
 

Qualifications:

-Educated to undergraduate level in Engineering
-Juniper certified to JNCIE is preferred but not essential
-CCIP/CCNP or CCIE qualification désirable
-Other certifications welcome
-Ability to assimilate complex material and tie effectively to others regardless of their technical knowledge
-Effective under pressure of time and breadth of responsibility
-Quality and delivery focused
-Effective team player who leads by example
-Ability to take ownership and demonstrate confidence
-Ability to tie effectively, emphasising both written and oral presentation skills
-Logical approach to fault finding and troubleshooting
-Ability to control and co-ordinate complex technical situations in a serene and professional manner
-Good Customer Facing Skills, dealing with specialist requests regarding Overall Solutions and not limited to a single Technology.
-Customer Focused and good communication with all required parties, including Internal/external network partners and customers
