The use of AI is monitored and if applicants have used it, then they are required to declare this in their supporting statement.Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time NHS appointment at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) to enhance and develop pathways of care for patients living with cancer in emergency, acute assessment, elective day care, and clinic settings. The postholder will play a key role in service development, including the creation of a Cancer Assessment Unit and corresponding care pathways, and will support audits and evaluations of this service to drive continuous improvement.This post would be suitable for a senior trainee (ST3+ level) who intends to pursue an academic or NHS oncology career. The post holder will be responsible to the Lead Clinician for Acute Oncology at UCH. GMC Registration and NHS experience is essential. Possession of MRCP or equivalent is desirable. Specialist training in clinical or medical oncology with experience in delivery of chemotherapy is desirable. The clinical sessions will be based in the cancer centre day unit, clinics and the inpatient wards/emergency department, but the post holder may need to see some patients at other locations within the Trust.The post holder will have the same education and training opportunities provided to trainees, with the same study leave benefits.Main duties of the jobThe aim of this post is to support the transfer of care from the Emergency Department to inpatient and outpatient settings, facilitating timely transitions into the day care environment within the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre. The postholder will also contribute to audits, service reviews, and potential research projects related to the Cancer Assessment Unit and overall cancer pathways.   • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full registration with the GMC

Desirable criteria

  • MRCP or equivalent

ExperienceEssential criteria

  • Minimum 4 yrs full-time postgraduate training in medicine or part-time equivalent since first obtaining registration
  • Management of all aspects of care of patients with complex cancers undergoing intensive treatment as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working in an NHS setting
  • Experience of clinical teaching and supervision of junior staff

Skills, Ability & KnowledgeEssential criteria

  • Attendance at emergency and resuscitation courses e.g. ALS
  • Communication; ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
  • Accountability; ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
  • Interpersonal Skills; ability to see patients as people, ability to empathise and work co-operatively with others.

  • Research in related field

  • Ability to organise, prioritise own workload and be able to work own initiative
  • Demonstrate Ability to undertake Clinical Audit/Governance and lead new projects
