  • Relevant degree approved by Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
  • Knowledge of relevant laboratory data management systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant quality procedures.
  • Health and Safety knowledge.
  • Understanding of data protection and data quality.

Desirable criteria

  • Have a detailed understanding of the normal physiology and pathology of disease in order to apply the knowledge to specialty diagnostics.

  • Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Portfolio

Knowledge, SkillsEssential criteria

  • Working in a laboratory environment.
  • Pathology IT systems.
  • Working in a team and alone
  • Training, inducting and supporting junior staff.
  • Intermediate and accurate IT skills
  • Have good manual dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination skills for accuracy and fine adjustment of equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical skills with the ability to work in a methodical and systematic way.

Desirable criteria

  • Working (within a specialty) in busy Pathology laboratory.
  • Supervising / managing support grade staff
  • Maintenance on a variety of equipment.

Training and ExperienceEssential criteria

  • Effectively apply skills and knowledge
  • Work with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to their review and implementation
  • Work within safe systems of work and report any deficiencies in those systems
  • Perform the wide range of duties as set out in the Job Description
  • Work under pressure; plan and prioritise allocated work to work to deadlines.

  • Must participate in required rota pattern for the department.
  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary)
  • Ability and willingness to fulfil the travel requirements of the post if relevant – primary place of work as per job description but on rare occasion may be asked to work at another site where the Trust has responsibility for Pathology services..
