The Department of Ecoscience (ECOS) at Aarhus University is seeking a highly skilled and motivated ecologist to join our team as special consultant. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background in biodiversity, with a focus on nature conservation, rewilding, and biodiversity monitoring. This role involves supporting scientific projects, contributing to advisory work and a coordinating role in the Topic Center for Biodiversity and the Terrestrial Environment.Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a permanent position planned to start on June 1st 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.Job description
We are looking for candidates to help strengthen our scientific and advisory work within the field of biodiversity and nature conservation:Key responsibilities include:

• Experience in applied ecological research.
• Familiarity with monitoring schemes and biodiversity data methodologies, preferably with knowledge of the Danish National Monitoring program, NOVANA
• Previous experience with research-based policy support including digital tools and report writing.
• Competence in managing large and complex research projects with many participants.
• Coordination of research and advisory work, including collaboration with research teams.
• Public communication of research and advisory work, including written and oral presentations in both Danish and English.

Your profile
The ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

• A PhD in ecology (or a closely related field).
• Extensive experience in project management.
• Strong Danish and English communication skills (written & spoken).
• Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience with grant writing and securing research funding.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Familiarity with GIS and other ecological modeling tools.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Commitment to promoting workplace values

The Department of Ecoscience is engaged in research programmes and advisory work covering the major biological subdisciplines. We conduct world-class research in the areas of aquatic biology and ecology, arctic environment and ecosystems, biodiversity and conservation biology. The Department currently employs approximately 250 academic and technical staff, as well as many PhD students.
