South East London Creative Facilitator

Department: London Blue Chain – Froglife

Position Overview:

We are seeking creatives who can facilitate workshops focusing on residents’ heritage within
south London, and on freshwater habitats. We would like you to conceptually create a workshop/s about the life
that could be supported by ponds such as aquatic plants, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians. Some of the
key UK native amphibians and reptiles being focused on for this project are smooth newt, grass snake, common
frog, common toad, slow worm and great crested newt. Your workshops can focus on topics such as the loss of
freshwater habitats, ephemeral ponds (seasonal habitats), endangered species, life cycles of species and
the importance of biodiversity. Your workshop should look at what the connections and similarities are between
communities of residents and the communities of species within still bodies of waters. Your workshops should
bring reflection, memory and imagination.

The workshop that you facilitate should involve a visual arts or multimedia element, such as
painting, sound, drawing, photography and/or storytelling. We are aiming for our audiences to be made up of a
majority of people who have not historically had access to sessions of this type, or who have been overlooked by
the conservation sector.

We would like to work with local creatives who are resident in the six boroughs we are working
in: Bexley, Lewisham, Greenwich, Lambeth, Southwark and Bromley. Creatives must provide a DBS check before
delivering a session. Your workshops must be inclusive, accessible and able to engage one or more of the
following groups:

• Children and young people in areas of multiple deprivation
• Adults, children and young people from ethnic minority groups
• Adults with learning and physical disabilities and support needs
• People with lack of access to green spaces

Key responsibilities:

• Facilitate 2/3 sessions to vulnerable communities
• Educate an assigned group on heritage, freshwater habitats, amphibian and reptile species.
• Educate an assigned group on endangered species and habitat loss
• Design a creative session of your chosen medium (multi-disciplinary practice, sound,
  drawing, painting, photography, performance art, design and spoken word and/or storytelling)

Experience:

• Has a background in creative arts involving ecology and nature (Desirable)
• Has a background in facilitating workshops within the catchment area (Essential)
• Has worked with vulnerable communities in previous workshops (Essential)
• Has worked with young and children with SEND (For children’s workshops only)
• Has knowledge of freshwater habitats (Desirable)
• Has knowledge of UK native amphibian and reptile species (Desirable)
• Has knowledge of safeguarding (Essential)
