You would mainly be working on environmental and social due diligence projects, both as part of wider technical due diligence and as standalone assignments. Clients would include private sector investors, lenders, and export credit agencies. Our team works across environmental assessment, including Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, and also other impact assessment types such as health and equalities assessments.The OpportunityAs part of an enthusiastic and ambitious team, you will also have the opportunity to help shape the growth of social advisory services and skills and collaborate with colleagues across all Arup regions. This includes sharing your ideas and contributing to innovation and research in new products and services that aim to shape a better world.As a Social Consultant at Arup, you will:
- Deliver ‘social and human rights’ aspects of Lenders environmental and social advisory services including on involuntary resettlement and land acquisition, labour management, indigenous peoples’ rights, stakeholder engagement, vulnerable people, gender and human rights
- Contribute to Gap Analyses, Environmental and Social Due Diligence Reports, Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAP), Social Impact Assessments, Resettlement Action Plans, Livelihood Restoration Plans, Stakeholder Engagement Plans, Indigenous Peoples’ Plans, Gender Assessments and action plans, Human Rights Assessments and Social Monitoring Reports, amongst others
- Undertake regular short-term travel to the projects sites overseas
- Support business development activities including proposals, presentations, and marketing activities and to thought leadership, innovation and research
Does this role inspire you?We’re looking for someone who shared appreciation of Arup’s values and desire to shape a better world:
- Master or university degree in social science, engineering, urban planning, legal or another discipline relevant to the management of social impacts in the built environment
- At least 5 years of experience in similar position
- Experience in social due diligence of medium or large-scale infrastructure projects and the preparation of due diligence reports
- Working knowledge of social standards applied by lenders (International Financial Institutions)
- Have knowledge in the area of social impact assessment and social safeguard management in the field of the built environment; specifically impact from land acquisition, involuntary resettlement, labour and working conditions
- A good standard of written English and good communication skills will be essential
