It is also the oldest art and design university-level institution in continuous operation and has been ranked as the world’s number one art and design university for a remarkable ten consecutive years, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 – the worldwide survey of academic and industry opinion.We are seeking an outstanding practitioner, educator, and researcher to contribute to the international and interdisciplinary ethos of the School and programme.Position Overview:The Senior Tutor (Research) Service Design will play a critical role in our programme. Reporting to the Head of Programme and working closely with the current team, you will:

  • Lead on Curriculum Development and Research-Led Teaching: Drive the development of the curriculum and integrate research-led approaches into teaching.
  • Provide Day-to-Day Academic Management: Ensure smooth academic operations and foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Encourage Critical Design-Thinking: Administer and communicate effectively to promote critical design-thinking.
  • Develop Programme Research Activity: Align research activities with the RCA’s strategic research plan.
  • Lead Research Funding Bid Development: Drive the development of research funding proposals.
  • Develop Networks and Relevant Partnerships: Build and maintain networks and partnerships to enhance the programme.
  • Promote the Programme: Represent the programme through exhibitions and other dissemination activities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A first degree in a relevant specialism.
  • A doctorate in relevant field
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students.
  • Commitment to equality of opportunity and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Evidence of the ability to supervise academic work at masters and doctoral levels.
  • A proven record of producing research outputs of at least 3* REF quality.
  • A recognised international profile in a relevant specialist field.
  • Significant contributions as an effective teacher of postgraduate students and, through teaching, significant contributions to the advancement of the subject.
  • Experience in devising and teaching courses, and setting and assessing written work at postgraduate degree level.
  • Evidence of the ability to act as principal investigator or co-investigator.
