Then you may be our new colleague in Skeletal Muscle Biology!The positionAs Senior Scientist you will be part of an ambitious multidisciplinary team exploring and identifying new treatment options for type 2 diabetes and obesity. You will be working closely with scientists and technicians throughout the organisation to move projects forward across the value chain.Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Being part of establishing, implementing, and utilizing new advanced human in vitro disease models in collaboration with fellow scientist across the organisation. This includes staying on top of relevant developments in the field, commercial as well as academic
  • Identifying, maturing and progressing new drug targets within type 2 diabetes and obesity with an emphasis on skeletal muscle biology, from design of in vitro experiments to validation of human relevance by assessing translational tools and exploring a target’s putative mechanism of action
  • Taking part in evaluating potential new targets and external opportunities from academia, biotech, or pharma

QualificationsYou hold a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, human biology, or related disciplines with more than 2 years of relevant experience, preferably within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.To be successful in this position we expect you to have:

  • Proven scientific track-record and a thorough understanding of type 2 diabetes pathophysiology with in-depth knowledge of skeletal muscle biology and metabolism
  • Experience in target discovery and in vitro characterisation and validation
  • Experience in advanced in vitro models, such as co-culture systems, organoids, organs-on-chip or micro-physiological models
  • Preferably experience with bioinformatics and data analysis
  • Ideally international work experience and a solid international scientific network
  • Fluency in English

We expect you to have a well-structured and diligent approach at work, bring a can-do attitude and take responsibility for your own projects and progress.About the departmentThe Skeletal Muscle Biology department is part of the Metabolic Disease Research area and focus on skeletal muscle biology in relation to target identification, target validation and pre-clinical characterisation of new assets to become novel treatment options for patients living with type 2 diabetes or obesity.We are working in an organ-centric and disease agnostic manner to develop, characterise and utilize in vitro tools to elucidate mode-of-action and profiling of novel molecules and biology for early evaluation of drug candidates. For this purpose, we apply state-of-the-art equipment and collaborate closely with our colleagues across GDD as well as with external collaborators.In the department, we are five scientists, two technicians, two associate scientists and two postdocs and the working atmosphere is characterised by an open, cheerful, and informal tone.
