There are no limits to where you can take your career.Job SummaryGKN is seeking a Senior Research Engineer – Fuel System Control to join our team in advancing zero-emission flight through hydrogen electric propulsion systems. The role involves developing and validating control systems for liquid hydrogen fuel delivery, including refueling, storage, conditioning, and distribution. You will collaborate with system architects, design teams, safety teams, and external partners to ensure seamless integration across the propulsion system. The ideal candidate will be experienced in relevant areas and will contribute to the HYFIVE collaborative program, driving innovation in sustainable aerospace technology.Job Responsibilities
- Enhance and Develop Fuel System Control Algorithms – especially through model based control generation
- Develop fuel system control protection schemes
- Develop fuel system state machine solutions for all critical modes of operation (including emergency states & aircraft start and stop)
- Develop fuel system verification solutions to support routes to certification.
- Assist in developing the Integrated Controls technology roadmap
- Perform validation through Model-in-the-Loop (MIL) and Software-in-the Loop (SIL) Testing
- Generate interface control documents (IDC) to support fuel system design
- Strong organisation skills of self and others
- Internal & external technical relationships with Customers and suppliers.
What You’ll BringTo help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:Essential:
- Minimum B.Eng degree qualified in relevant field
- Experience in modelling physical systems, preferably Matlab Simulink and Simscape
- Experience in Model-in-the-Loop (MIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing
- Experience in controlling fluid delivery systems.
Desirable:
- Aerospace Industry experience else experience in a safety based industry.
- Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience in Model-Based Design (MBD) software development for industrial applications
- Experience in real-time embedded software environment.
- Wider experience of fuel system Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Testing
- Wider experience of fuel cells and / or flow control and / or phase change modelling
