The roleWe are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled researcher to work on a nutrition and metabolism research project investigating the effects of a very-low carbohydrate (ketogenic) diet on colorectal cancer risk. The project will combine analysing samples for a Randomised Controlled Trial with comprehensive phenotyping of the circulation and peripheral tissues using state of the art omics approaches, and link these to colorectal cancer risk using Mendelian randomization.The successful candidate will work within Dr Vincent’s interdisciplinary research group in Translational Health Sciences at the University of Bristol and will join a vibrant team working on this project. This research is supported by Cancer Research UK and is being conducted in partnership with co-investigators at University of Bath (Prof Javier Gonzalez and Dr Francoise Koumanov), Imperial College London (Dr James Yarmolinsky) and University of Cambridge (Dr Emma Hazelwood).The role is based within Bristol Medical School. Line management will be provided by Dr Emma Vincent, Associate Professor in Molecular metabolism.What will you be doing?The Senior Research Associate will coordinate and perform sample analysis and subsequent data collection, analysis and administration. The Senior Research Associate will perform Mendelian randomization analyses and write up findings for publication.
This project provides an excellent opportunity to use many state-of-the-art techniques – including omics data handling and analyses, and Mendelian randomization. Within the team there would also be the opportunity to be involved in techniques including controlled dietary intervention, blood biochemistry, indirect calorimetry, tissue biopsy handling and analyses and laboratory-based cell biology. The Senior Research Associate will be joining a team with many complimentary skills and training will be provided where needed.
