Within ISD, this post is in the IT Service and Operations department which manages the infrastructure and data platforms which underpin UCL’s central IT services, including data centres, cloud compute and storage platforms, networks, telephony, communications and collaboration and enterprise applications. In addition, IT Service and Operations provides an End-to-end Service Management capability, ensuring UCL’s IT services are relevant, responsive and resilientAbout the roleThe Network Platforms team are responsible for the design and operation of firewalling, routing (OSPF and BGP), wireless networking, data centre networking and cloud networking within UCL. The team also provide networking services to a number of other associated organisations around London. As a member of this team, the post holder will be expected to perform the duties required to manage, maintain and develop networking services across all of these technical areas.As a technical expert, the post holder will be expected to work on a number of projects across these areas – taking ownership and responsibility for the design, implementation and delivery of new and updated services in a scalable and maintainable configuration.The post holder will have broad experience of designing, administering, configuring and supporting large scale networks.A deep and thorough knowledge and experience of dynamic routing within a large campus network and the ability to troubleshoot complex networking problems using modern tools and techniques is essential. Operational experience of Cloud networking technologies, wireless network management; routing and switching; and Cisco and Fortinet firewalls is also a key requirement.The post holder must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a professional approach to working as part of a team. The post holder should be enthusiastic about network technologies, with up-to-date knowledge on modern networking technologies and architectures.A willingness to plan and implement continuous service improvements to ensure maximum customer satisfaction is a must, and it is expected that the post holder would be up to date with current trends and changes in all aspects of networking and related technologies in order to actively participate in these improvements.
