If so, we are looking for a Senior HR Policy Advisor to join us at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), and we’d love to hear from you!

Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in providing policy advice to stakeholders across DVLA.

As DVLA’s Senior HR Policy Advisor you will lead the activities of the HR Policy Unit contributing to DfT, and DVLA policy development, implementation and review, proactively driving the development of new policies and initiatives, as well as changes to existing policy in response to legislative, government and business needs.

The role comes with the opportunity to make a difference to DVLA and DfT through policy creation, review and improvement. The work is multifaceted and provides the role holder with an extensive influence across the agency as well as the chance to work towards acquiring a Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) qualification; a recognised professional standard for HR and training specialists working across the UK’s public, private and charity sectors.

Responsibilities 

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to: 

  • Provide Agency input into the scoping, development, implementation and review of DfT Group policies
  • Lead on the development of new, and the review of current, DVLA policies in response to business need
  • Make HR policy operational via HR Business Partners, so that it can be implemented by line managers
  • Assess, review and evaluate policies after implementation to ensure consistent application and effectiveness
  • Communicate and gain agreement to new/changes to policy amongst a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide a source of knowledge on policy and legislation for others within and outside of the Policy department
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships across HR team, Business Partners, Shared Services, the business, DfT and with external stakeholders.

Additional information

Person specification

You don’t need to have a HR policy background, but we will expect you to demonstrate a keen interest in HR policies and have experience of, and have an aptitude for, weighing policy against organisational issues to reach a solution. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide sound written advice. You will have experience of providing guidance and recommendations to internal stakeholders with the ability to build solid relationships across the business.

You will be a trusted advisor, with the credibility to influence and challenge effectively to support policy decision making. You will have excellent time management skills with the aptitude to efficiently handle conflicting priorities. You will also have a passion for investigating and value collaboration with others in order to provide fair and balanced advice.

Due to the evolving nature of the business, vacancies can become available at any time. Therefore, this campaign may create a reserve list to fulfil demand if it arises which will be held for a period of 12 months.
