THE OPPORTUNITY

The EH&S department is recruiting a Senior Expert Chemical compliance and Industrial hygiene to support the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines Supply Chain pharmaceutical manufacturing processes in Belgium. The position will be based in Geel, Belgium.

The Geel site is the largest chemical production site for small molecule API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) within the J&J Innovative Medicines supply chain. We ensure lifesaving medicines reach the patient, safely, optimality, competitively, always. Beside production of API’s, the site has a launch & grow mission for new pharmaceutical products. To accomplish this mission, we keep investing in new technologies, people, and partnerships. As the Senior Expert Chemical compliance and Industrial hygiene, you will feel the beating heart of pharmaceutical manufacturing at the Geel site. You support and advise the site in implementation of the chemical compliance and Industrial Hygiene strategy, and you are continuously improving these programs to prevent severe injuries or undesired health effects caused by activities at the workplace, together with the environmental health and safety (EH&S) team. In your job you work with many functions and levels of the organization.

Further responsibilities:

• You are the owner of the site program for the management of legal and J&J requirements regarding regulated substances and chemical agents (SDS compliance and management, legal reporting, hazard data management and communication).

• You support the completion of Industrial Hygiene monitoring plan and you provide detailed risk identification (using specific tools) and evaluations (statistical analysis of the results and draw up reports).

• You provide trainings for employees on exposure to chemicals and risks of chemical substances.

• You perform focus audits or program reviews on chemical compliance and industrial hygiene.

• You maintain strong collaborations with production departments to ensure Industrial Hygiene aspects are considered at the beginning of new projects or changes. You are the local EH&S point of contact for introducing new chemical substances.

• As first point of contact, you investigate, analyze and address identified problems related to Industrial Hygiene and chemical exposure, for dedicated areas of the site.

• You provide advice on Safety Data Sheets and safe and sustainable use of chemicals in collaboration with operations, chemical warehouse and quality lab of the site.

• You participate in local or global EH&S programs, projects and initiatives as team member or project lead.

• You are part of a small but dynamic team of experts with focus on controlling all chemical, physical and ergonomic hazards as part of the bigger EH&S team.

• You participate in an on-call system in the context of internal emergency planning.

Qualifications

To be successful, you demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within a virtual matrix environment. Further requirements include:

• You have a professional bachelor’s degree in chemistry/science or equivalent by experience.

• Working experience in chemical management is preferred

• You are eager to learn and are willing to develop as EH&S Prevention advisor level 2 and a formal education in Industrial Hygiene.

• You demonstrate a strong personal leadership and love to work within diverse teams.

• You are an independent decision taker and can work in a constantly evolving organization.

• You demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English and Dutch.

• You like to work with people, no matter what level, in a sophisticated organization.

• You are willing to travel (maximum 10%, merely in Belgium).
