Are you ready to shape and influence the digital markets sector? We are seeking a dedicated Senior Digital Markets Adviser to join our innovative Digital Markets Unit (DMU). This position offers an exciting opportunity to support a pro-competition digital markets regime that will benefit both consumers and businesses in the UK.

About the CMA

We help people, businesses, and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. Our work is wide ranging, ambitious and often new and challenging.

The DMU has been established to promote greater competition and innovation in digital markets, for the benefit of consumers and people. Our work focuses on some of the most important digital markets used by consumers and business in the UK, like online search, social media, app stores and online marketplaces.

It is an exciting time to join the DMU – we are passionate about what we do and offer a supportive environment, with opportunities to be involved in a wide range of interesting work.

We are also recruiting for a Senior Project Officer, Digital Markets for which you would need to make a separate application.

The DMU will host a drop-in session for prospective candidates interested in working for the CMA. Candidates are invited to join a virtual session where the team will explain the work of the DMU and you can hear from existing team members about their experiences. Recruiting managers will be on hand to ask any questions you may have about the vacancies in team.

Job description

As a Senior Digital Markets Adviser, you will lead and contribute to the delivery of the CMA’s pro-competition digital markets regime. You will collaborate closely with economists, legal professionals, and business and finance advisers as part of a multidisciplinary team. Your role will involve working on substantive assessments and investigations to evaluate Strategic Market Status (SMS), setting rules for digital firms, monitoring compliance, and engaging in broader strategy and stakeholder work. This is a dynamic role that requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple high-profile projects simultaneously.

Person specification

It is essential that you can provide evidence and examples for each of the following selection criteria in your application. For tips on how to make the most your application, please have a look at our guidance document.

Essential:

  • Experience researching, analysing documents and drawing together different sources of information to develop and draft recommendations and progress work (lead criteria).
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to deliver tasks by working with others within challenging timescales, reprioritising where necessary and ensuring decisions are made at the appropriate level (lead criteria).
  • Experience building relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external, including those from other professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences (verbal and written), tailoring communications appropriately and securing buy-in to ideas.

Desirable

  • Regulatory, legal or investigatory case management experience (i.e. progressing workstreams according to legal related or statutory timeframes).
  • Previous experience or roles in the following fields could be beneficial: management and delivery, analytical, research, policy, government, regulatory, or economics.
