Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. The Senior Database Architect & Power Apps Developer Consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, Supply Network Management Team. The consultant shall be responsible for the following duties: Database Architecture & Design • Architect scalable and optimized relational and non-relational data models within Microsoft Dataverse or Azure SQL. • Design normalized and de-normalized database structures, ensuring efficient data storage, retrieval, and performance. • Implement advanced data governance, security models, and role-based access controls within Dataverse or Azure SQL. • Develop strategies for data migration, integration, and synchronization across disparate data sources using Azure Data Factory or Power Automate. Power Apps Development • Design and develop complex, custom Power Apps solutions leveraging advanced features such as custom connectors, canvas apps, model-driven apps, and AI Builder. • Integrate Power Apps with external data sources, APIs, and services using Dataverse, REST APIs, or custom connectors. • Implement advanced business logic, workflows, and automation using Power Automate and Power Apps Component Framework (PCF). • Ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of Power Apps solutions through best practices in app design and user interface/experience (UI/UX). Reporting & Visualization • Create sophisticated Power BI reports and dashboards, utilizing DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) and M (Power Query Formula Language), Power Query, and custom visualizations to deliver actionable insights. • Implement data mashups from multiple sources, applying data transformation, cleansing, and modeling techniques within Power BI. • Embed Power BI reports within Power Apps or other platforms for enhanced reporting and decision-making. Collaboration & Support • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, data scientists, and business analysts to align solutions with organizational goals. • Provide ongoing technical support, troubleshooting, and performance tuning for Dataverse and Power Apps implementations. • Document technical designs, procedures, and processes to facilitate knowledge transfer and system maintenance.

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of one (01) years of experience in Microsoft Dataverse, including advanced data modeling, schema design, entity relationships, and metadata management is required. Experience in developing complex Power Apps using both canvas and model-driven approaches, with a focus on reusability and modular design is required. Experience in integrating Power Apps with various data sources, including Azure SQL Database, SharePoint, Dynamics 365, and custom APIs is required. Experience in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and visual development for interactive and dynamic reporting is required. Experience with the Power Platform ecosystem, including Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents is required. Experience with DevOps practices for application lifecycle management (ALM) within Power Apps, including version control, CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub is desirable. Experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly Azure services (e.g., Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Service Bus) is desirable. Experience with scripting languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, or C# for extending Power Apps capabilities using PCF is desirable. Certification in Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect is desirable. Certification in Azure Data Engineer Associate is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
