Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. THOMAS’ HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUSTCARDIOVASCULAR DIRECTORATESenior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery Nodal Point – 4 – £55,329 p.a excl. LZFull Time – 40 Hours per week Fixed Term – 6 MonthsThe Cardiovascular directorate at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is a large, tertiary centre for acute referrals, providing highly specialised treatments to patients of South East London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The three departments of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery have 132 beds at the St Thomas’ hub site, 5 cardiac catheter laboratories, 4 dedicated operating theatres and a vascular hybrid facility with integrated imaging. We are a leader for open, endovascular and hybrid treatment of patients with complex Vascular pathology.Main duties of the jobThe directorate would like to appoint a proactive and highly-motivated individuals to join the complex tertiary service provided by Vascular Surgery within the directorate. Applicants will need to have a strong background in Vascular Surgery and be interested in developing expertise in the treatment of complex vascular procedures. The posts will be for 6 months with the possibility of extension to 12 months. These posts would be ideal for doctors working towards a consultant level appointment (either in the final year of training or as a post CCT fellowship) who would like to broaden their expertise.

The applicants will be expected to support the service in both the development of clinical and research activities and will have the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of complex tertiary services provided by the department through support of on-call and emergency work.Working for our organisationAs an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients.   • Offers further training for those who have completed the majority of their higher surgical vascular training but who need some further experience in vascular and endovascular surgery including; full range of open arterial surgery, endovascular aneurysm repair (infrarenal, thoracic and complex thoracoabdominal), minimally invasive venous procedures and lymphoedema surgery.
  • To provide clinical services for vascular surgery patients in support of the consultant surgeons.
  • Duties will include training and mentoring of less experienced colleagues and other staff, participation in clinical audit and in clinical research projects.
  • Clinical areas covered will mainly include theatres, wards, vascular high dependency intensive overnight recovery unit and outpatients.
  • To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
  • To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.

Person specificationQualifications/ EducationEssential criteria

  • Medical Degree
  • Advanced Life Support certification
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable criteria

  • FRCS or Equivalent
  • Higher degree

ManagementEssential criteria

  • Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management.

Desirable criteria

  • Management training.
  • Evidence of participation in the development of clinical services.

ResearchEssential criteria

  • Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of clinical research.

TeachingEssential criteria

  • Experience of undergraduate teaching and post graduate training.

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching training.

Knowledge & SkillsEssential criteria

  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competent IT user.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to perform standard emergency clinical procedures
  • Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances

Desirable criteria

  • Previous surgical (vascular/cardiac) experience
  • Familiarity and management of vascular patients including those with aortic, peripheral vascular and venous disease.
  • Experience in insertion and managing central venous catheters.

Previous ExperienceEssential criteria

  • Equivalent to two years full time clinical experience in cardiovascular surgery including pre and post-operative care.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience as first assistant in vascular surgery.

Professional/ Statutory RegistrationEssential criteria

  • Full GMC registration and hold a licence to practise.

Desirable criteria

  • MS, MD, PhD.
