SEN Teaching AssistantCroydon, Greater LondonStart Date: January 2025Full-timeAre you passionate about supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs?Teaching Personnel are working with a lovely SEN Specialist school who are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to help meet the emotional and developmental needs of pupils. Students in our client school face challenges such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, requiring tailored care and support.In this role, you will provide high standards of care, working closely with families and creating individualised programs to foster positive learning environments.About You
You will have experience working with young people with Behavioural, Emotional, and Social Difficulties (BESD) or ASD in either school or care settings. You’ll understand the importance of pastoral care and have a strong grasp of the developmental needs of young people. A good listener and motivator, you’ll inspire young people to achieve while working effectively as part of a team. Your flexibility, organizational skills, and ability to problem-solve will make you an invaluable part of our team.Skills and Experience Required

  • Previous experience working with pupils with autism, including those with non-verbal communication needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using tools such as Makaton, PECs (Picture Exchange Communication System), and PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display).
  • Experience supporting pupils who display challenging behaviours, with a focus on understanding and addressing the underlying functions of these behaviours.
  • Flexibility to work with pupils aged 4 to 11, tailoring support and lessons to individual needs.
  • Creativity in delivering lessons, using bespoke and accessible approaches to meet the needs of each child.
  • Familiarity with autism-specific strategies such as TEACCH, Attention Autism, and PODD, with the ability to apply them in practice.
