Teaching Personnel is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support in a primary school or learning resource base (LRB). If you’re ready to play a pivotal role in helping students reach their potential, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.Role Overview:Job Title: SEMH Teaching AssistantLocation: NewportJob Type: Full-TimeStart Date: 06/01/2025Schedule: Monday to Friday (8:30am – 3:30pm)Key Responsibilities:

  • Safeguard and ensure the welfare of children at all times.
  • Provide tailored 1:1 support, both in and outside the classroom.
  • Assist in designing and implementing personalised interventions and strategies to support emotional and academic growth.
  • Promote positive behaviour, self-regulation, and emotional resilience.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and staff to adapt lessons and create an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
  • Support children during unstructured times, such as lunch and break periods.
  • Encourage social interactions with peers to foster development of social skills.
  • Build trusting, positive relationships with students and act as a role model.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Relevant qualifications are beneficial but not essential.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • A clear Enhanced DBS check and EWC registration.
  • A driving license is preferred but not required.

Ideal Candidate Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with SEMH or behavioural needs, ideally in an educational or care environment.
  • Patient, proactive, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and know when to seek support.
