SEMH Teaching Assistant Position AvailableTeaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Wilmslow. This is a full-time position starting ASAP and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance. The role offers a competitive weekly pay range of £419.25 – £500.Role Overview:As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them to thrive in their educational environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Individual Support: Providing one-on-one assistance to students with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions, develop coping strategies, and improve their behaviour.
  • Small Group Interventions: Leading small group sessions focused on social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution.
  • In-Class Assistance: Working alongside teachers to support students within the classroom, ensuring they are engaged and able to participate fully in lessons.
  • Progress Monitoring: Keeping detailed records of student progress and behaviour, and regularly reporting to teachers, parents, and senior leadership.
  • Personalised Support Plans: Developing and implementing tailored support plans for individual students in collaboration with teachers and other support staff.
  • Crisis Intervention: Responding to behavioural or emotional crises, providing immediate support and intervention when necessary.
  • Parental Communication: Liaising with parents and carers to keep them informed of their child’s progress and to enlist their support in strategies to improve their child’s SEMH needs.
  • Professional Development: Participating in training and professional development opportunities to stay updated with best practices in supporting students with SEMH needs.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary school students, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • Strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health challenges and strategies to support students facing these issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, resilience, and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in education, psychology, or a related field are advantageous.
