vacanciesineu.com

Natural England are seeking highly motivated individuals with a real passion for nature conservation to help support the LIFE in the Ravines project, working across nearly 900 hectares of internationally important woodland sites within the Peak District.

Job description:

We are looking for several suitable candidates to help deliver our winter woodland work programme. We are looking for individuals who are not necessarily qualified in all aspects of the role but a positive attitude and the ability to consistently demonstrate initiative and safe working practices is a must.

Carrying out tasks with the project team, this role will require a high level of practical aptitude, in addition to excellent teamwork and communication skills. To deliver the aims of the project you will need to be physically fit and able to operate safely and effectively in remote locations, as day-to-day tasks are conducted on steep challenging terrain and require working outside in all weather conditions.

You will need to have knowledge and experience in the safe use of tools associated with delivering practical woodland management. A tree felling qualification would be advantageous but is not essential as other tasks will include:

  • Tree planting and aftercare
  • Measuring and marking-up of felling coupes and work areas
  • Contributing towards Health and Safety management of the project, through risk assessments

Mandatory requirements:

  • An understanding of trees and woodland ecology
  • A valid First Aid qualification
  • A full UK Driving Licence

Desirable:

  • Chainsaw qualification for small tree felling (eg NPTC CS31 or equivalent)
  • Tree Planting and aftercare experience
  • A First Aid at Work with +F qualification
  • Off-road driving qualification

Contracts will be offered on a fixed term basis until end March 2025. Full time and part-time roles are available; flexible working patterns will generally be accommodated unless stated otherwise. On taking up this post, the post holder will be required to sign a letter allowing Natural England to use their payroll information and request copies of payslips for project claims and audits.
