About the role:We are currently seeking to appoint a Scientific Officer within the Molecular Biology Core Department. You will work as part of a team of service providers to support the groundbreaking research at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute and will contribute to these services in a flexible manner. A central element of the Core team’s activities involves the preparation and processing of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) for Next Generation Sequencing. The post holder will be engaged in all stages of molecular biology workflows from sample QC through to data processing using the Department’s high throughput instrumentation. The team takes special pride in the close interactions with users of the service and a friendly and flexible approach in dealing with users’ requests is an essential prerequisite. Details of the Molecular Biology Core’s activities and the technology platforms used can be found here ( ).About you:You should be educated to a degree level in a biosciences subject or relevant subject (or equivalent relevant experience). You will have experience in a range of molecular biological techniques, although training can be given to provide the necessary skill set. You will have relevant experience in working in a Life Science Laboratory along with relevant knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing applications.Our team members are enthusiastic bench scientists with a meticulous approach to their work and the ability to critically assess their own output. Essential key qualities include independent thinking, embracing collaborative work and excellent communication skills, all of which are needed to efficiently work in a multidisciplinary team.
