Two positions in the group of research and teaching academics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and MechanicsIn accordance with the Law on Higher Education and Science, and with the consent of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, the University of Warsaw invites applications for 2 positions of Samuel Eilenberg Assistant Professorships in the group of research and teaching academics in the Institute of Informatics. Candidates eligible to participate in the competition must meet the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, as amended).Samuel Eilenberg (1913-1998) obtained his PhD degree in Mathematics at the University of Warsaw in 1936 under the supervision of Kazimierz Kuratowski and Karol Borsuk. He spent most of his career in the USA as a professor at Columbia University. He exerted a critical influence on contemporary mathematics and theoretical computer science; he was a co-founder of modern topology, category theory, homological algebra, and automata theory. His scientific development epitomizes openness to new ideas and readiness to face demanding intellectual challenges.Samuel Eilenberg Assistant Professor is a special assistant professor position offered to outstanding early-career researchers every year since 2019. It comes with an increased salary and reduced teaching load.Terms of employment: planned starting date is 1st Oct. 2025 or 1st Feb. 2026, a full-time, fixed-term employment contract for 2 or 4 years (to be decided with successful applicants). The candidates should be committed to Computer Science research and will have reduced teaching duties (120 teaching hours per academic year). The basic salary (before taxes) is 10_000 PLN per month with an additional seniority allowance (1% of the base salary for each year of employment); this amount is further increased due to salary bonuses awarded to active faculty members. For Samuel Eilenberg assistant professor, these bonuses will be at least 2 000 PLN monthly (before taxes). Employees are provided with a benefits package, access to training, and support for professional development.Successful candidates for Samuel Eilenberg Assistant Professorships should have: * a Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, or related disciplines obtained not earlier than in the year 2020 (at the candidate’s request, this period may be extended by 6 months for each child born or adopted);
Candidates obtain extra points for research fellowships outside of Poland within the last two years, and outstanding scientific development confirmed by high-quality papers; a clear concept of maintaining the development is required.

Application deadline: 14 February, 2025The applications will be evaluated by the selection committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw, Poland. A candidate may be invited to an interview by the committee. The decision date is 31 May 2025 (an e-mail notification will be provided).
