The Scotch Governance Team is comprised of Health & Safety, Environmental, Quality, Risk & Assurance, and Training functions, and our mission is to lead Scotch Governance with integrity; partnering growth, and delivering world-class reputation. Joining a wider Governance Team of 60 people who are passionate about what they do, providing functional expertise to support and maintain the delivery of high standards across our 50+ sites.

About this Role

As Risk, Custom & Excise (C&E) Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving the Risk, Assurance and C&E agendas and champion improvement across the site. You will lead and be responsible for the management of C&E activities and requirements for the Shieldhall Packaging site including creations and submission on warehouse returns with some travel to other sites within Scotland.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the site-based assurance team, promoting continued improvement and focusing on both running and improving within the team.

  • Operating daily/ weekly tier meetings and taking appropriate escalation.

  • Fire management support.

  • Coordination of risk management insurance requirements.

  • Compile and deliver CAPEX proposals for improvements and work alongside project engineering leads to deliver on CAPEX projects. Engage with all projects of major change onsite through ‘management of change’ and ‘CAPEX’ programs to ensure all functional risks are identified and addressed.

  • Continually working to identify areas for improvement and work alongside key partners to ensure implementation. Inspiring change and consistency in current/existing practices & ways of working within the risk remit. Research ‘standard methodology’ to enable benchmarking.

  • UK duty stamp compliance.

  • Provision of risk management, security, and C&E support, enabling the site to lead and control the risks faced to an acceptable level, via audit, policies, risk assessment, work instruction/procedures, training, management plans, etc.

  • Lead with risk-related training & exercises for the site security representative responsible for ensuring high-security standards throughout the site.

  • Working closely with Risk and Assurance Managers/C&E Managers/Governance team to drive compliance at the site and throughout the wider business.

  • Managing directly 6 site assurance officers.

To be successful in this role, you need:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or identified transferrable skills, ability to self-lead, and be adaptable.

  • Broad-based knowledge of risk issues impacting Diageo.

  • Ideally an understanding of C&E legislation and an understanding of COMAH requirements.

  • Understanding of relevant UK Health, Safety, Environmental and Food Safety legislation.

  • Competent computing skills

  • Excellent leadership, coordination, communication, and influencing skills

  • Yellow/Green belt or equivalent in Lean Six Sigma (desirable but not essential) but experience of delivering improvement projects.
